Lumbalumba Diving Manado is now an official quarantine hotel. Last week we had a hotel inspection by the Public Health Office and they rewarded us with the official status of Quarantine Hotel. This means that any international arrivals at Manado International Airport can do their 10 days quarantine, as required by the Indonesian government, with us. Doesn’t that sound good? We have created special discounted quarantine package for those that wish to stay with us.

Indonesia is not officially open for tourism yet and you do need a special visa to be able to enter Indonesia. We can assist you with obtaining the required visa. More information & requirements on entering Indonesia. The only international flight arriving at Manado airport is the Scoot flight, arriving 2x a week on Wednesday & Friday. Scoot is the low cost airline of the Singapore Airlines Group. You can easily connect this flight to any international Singapore Airlines flight arriving in Singapore.

We have shut down since mid-March 2020 and we are maintaining the resort with just a skeleton crew of staff . We are all healthy, nobody is experiencing health problems due to this crisis and we all had two vaccinations. The last months we have been working hard to get the resort back in operation and currently everything is is in tip-top condition and we will be open up again for business by the end of October 2021.

We have received our CHSE certificate.
CHSE stands for Clean, Health, Safe and Environment.

Resorts and hotels receive this certificate when complying with the CHSE standards. A government team inspected us in September and we passed with an excellent 97% score!

There was a peak of COVID-19 infections in July 2021, mainly in the densely populated parts of Java. In Manado cases did rise but not as much as in other areas. This was probably due to the high vaccination rate in North Sulawesi. In October about 80% of the population received at least one jab, but many already two.

The current situation

In Manado life is pretty much as normal again. You can eat wherever you want and all shops are open. Wearing a face mask in public is mandatory, as is washing your hands before entering a shop or restaurant. They also check your temperature. At some places, mainly shopping malls, you have to use an smart phone app to be able to enter.

Borders were almost completely closed during the last few months due to the high numbers of positive tests. In September the government started easing this policy and halfway through the month, they allowed people with a business visa to enter the country again. You needed a sponsor for this visa and it is not intended for tourism.

More restrictions were lifted during the last few weeks and currently citizens of certain countries are allowed to enter Indonesia as tourists. These countries are: China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Liechtenstein, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Hungary and Norway.

Entry requirements

It is not clear what kind of visa visitors from this country need to enter. As far as we know it’s still a business visa and they need to have a sponsor to obtain it. The main difference from before is that the authorities now allow tourism activities with this kind of visa. There is also a quarantine period involved in designated hotels or resorts, specifically labeled by the government for this purpose. The quarantine period was, until yesterday, 8 days and has since then gone down to 5 days. But this period seems to go down again in the next couple of weeks to 3 days.  After that you can more or less go where you want in Indonesia. The last step would be that VOA will be available again.

There are 3 international ports of entry in Indonesia at the moment: Jakarta, Denpasar and Manado. Scoot is flying weekly to Manado from Singapore but the number of flights is changing now and then.

Though the quarantine period is of course not practical for the normal tourist with limited holidays, it might be an option for people who have more time on their hands. You don’t have to worry about this when you are retired or having a sabbatical. Contact us if you are in that situation and we will help out with making the right arrangements to enter the country and stay with us for a prolonged period of time.

All in all there is a lot of confusion and we are not surprised if something else changed while writing this. There are still many questions and proper answers are difficult to find.

But no matter what, there is definitely positive progress! If you have any questions or need any assistance in visiting Indonesia, please drop us an email and we will do our best to help you.
